I’ve spoken with a lot of incredible guests on Love and Trauma: The Real Deal, but this episode with Niobis Queiro hit differently.
Niobis is a nationally recognized healthcare leader, a best-selling author, and a total powerhouse in her industry. But behind all the accolades is a story of resilience, survival, and deep emotional healing—one that started when she was just eight years old, acting as the translator for her mother’s cancer diagnosis.
That alone stopped me in my tracks. As a mother, I can’t imagine placing that weight on a child’s shoulders—but Niobis didn’t have a choice. That moment was the beginning of her becoming “the strong one,” the fixer, the responsible one who carried everyone else’s load. And wow… if you’ve been following my story, you know that hit home.
Niobis went on to face an unimaginable series of health crises—a brain tumor, a stroke, two cardiac arrests, and a devastating car accident—yet she still pushed forward, still wore the mask, still kept it all together… until she couldn’t anymore.
🔥 The Real Deal: My 3 Biggest Takeaways
1. Suppressing Your Emotions Might Help You Survive—But It Won’t Help You Heal
Niobis shared something I think so many of us relate to: we build walls thinking we’re protecting ourselves, but all we’re really doing is keeping people out. She admitted that those same walls cost her her first marriage, and that hit me. Because I know what it feels like to think you're doing the "right" thing by staying strong… only to realize later it came at a cost.
2. Balance Is a Lie—What We Need Is Flow
I loved this part of our conversation. She said, "You can't stay on a balance beam forever." And she's right. Life isn’t about equal parts work, love, rest, and joy—it's about learning to flow, adjusting in real time, and giving ourselves (and our partners) grace when one side of life demands more of us. As a wife, mom, and coach, this gave me so much language to rethink how I manage the juggle.
3. You Can’t Attract the Right Love Until You Know What You Want
This might’ve been my favorite moment. Niobis realized she had spent her life living by everyone else’s expectations—family, culture, career—and it wasn’t until she asked herself what do I actually enjoy? that things started to shift. I mean… she joined a car racing group and got a motorcycle (yes, really!) and that’s where she met her now-husband. It reminded me how often we lose ourselves in caretaking or "doing the right thing," and how powerful it is when we start living for us again.
This interview is honest, healing, and so needed. If you’ve ever felt like your strength is keeping you stuck, if you’ve carried too much for too long, or if you’re trying to figure out how to reconnect with yourself again—you need to hear this story.
